About This Map of Central Visayas

A few years ago, my friends and I took a trip to Central Visayas, hitting up Cebu and Bohol. It’s a trip that I’d call 100% one for the books and a really unforgettable time for a guy in his mid 20s.

However, I really wish we had changed our approach a little.

Like, instead of trying to fit in two big adventures every day, we could have paired one adventure with something more relaxing. Aside from that, instead of having a five day trip, we could have stretched our time to a full week or longer!

A week or longer?

Yes!

As we discovered, this part of the Philippines has so many exciting adventures and spectacular sights. We were surprised because there really is something for everyone from the ocean floor to the mountain tops!

Thanks to our guide, who also owns our homestay and suggested so many must visit places in Cebu and the surrounding areas, we could not shake off the feeling that we missed out on so many experiences as we fly back home. You can find most of our guide’s suggestions included in the map of Central Visayas I showed you.

But honestly, even if our guide had not mentioned all those attractions, we’d still feel like we missed out on plenty of experiences. The unpredictable geography of the islands in Central Visayas already gave us a hint that there’s more to see.

Just think about Bohol.

At first glance at a map, you might think the island is only towns, jungles, and beaches. But there are the Chocolate Hills.

It is the same with Cebu.

For most of my life growing up, from the time my grade school teacher introduced me to Cebu until I started working and finally visited, I never knew it had so many breathtaking waterfalls and canyons like the famous Kawasan Falls.

When I got there, I was like: wow. Now I understand why travelers skip Manila and head straight to Cebu when they visit our country.

I may not be returning to Central Visayas anytime soon, but the curiosity I felt after traveling to Cebu and Bohol led me to create this map.

More than anything, it is a pleasure and a privilege to promote our country’s most beautiful destinations and help other travelers make the most of their trips. This map might be a simple piece of software or paper, but I truly hope it can make a difference in some way.

Feel free to download, use, and share this map of Central Visayas. May this map help make your trip stand out from the typical tourist experience by showing you the off the beaten path destinations I included.

I wish you a very memorable trip!

Where to Start Exploring Central Visayas

Central Visayas is a region in the Philippines where you can find some of the most iconic landmarks, natural attractions, and historical sites.

Its main gateway is Cebu, which essentially acts as the second capital of the country. From most nearby countries in Asia or even Australia, you can fly directly into Cebu. If you are coming from Manila, Clark, or other local airports, Bohol and Dumaguete are other great options to consider. From either of these islands, you can hop on a ferry to see the rest of the area.

For example, you could head over to Negros Oriental, Siquijor, the Camotes Islands (Pacijan, Poro, Ponson, and Tulang Islands), or the Bantayan Islands. You could even go as far as Camiguin, although that is actually in Mindanao.

During our trip, we actually started by flying into Bohol-Panglao International Airport and then flew out through Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
