How I Survived Blogging Alone for YEARS (and How You Can Too)

My tested and proven tips on how you can stay resilient and keep moving forward even when building your blogging business feels overwhelming and lonely.

When it comes to fun, I’d give blogging a seven out of ten, with ten being the highest.

It could have been eight if there weren’t those costly, painful, inevitable mistakes. Nine, if people, including my parents and friends, understood why I’m doing it. A perfect ten, if working alone didn’t feel so lonely.

I’ve been blogging for almost five years now, and those three big blogging bummers? They’ve been the hardest to handle so far.

Sometimes they’re so tough that the ‘seven-out-of-ten’ fun barely feels real. There have even been moments when I seriously questioned whether it was worth continuing!

What helped me stay sane and push through the tough moments is what I want to share today. The tips to survive blogging.

I’ve been meaning to write this, knowing I can come back to it whenever I need a boost in motivation. But more than that, after facing those challenges, I felt called to help others who are in the place I once was. I guess going through those struggles planted a seed of empathy in me.

If that’s you, Or if you’ve ever felt discouraged about blogging, these tips are exactly what you need. Let’s keep you moving toward your goals.

The craziest moment in my blogging journey happened only two years in. It was between fall 2023 and spring 2024, when Google rolled out updates known as the HCU ‘Helpful Content Update’ and the March 2024 Core Update.

These updates wiped millions of blogs and indie sites from search results. Mine, included.

The traffic I had built since January 2021? Gone. My income? Disappeared in only a few months. Those were intense times. But they taught me the value of authenticity and building a personal brand. That’s also when I decided to write for people first and everything else second.

Honestly, it’s hard to describe what I felt during that time. Pain, frustration, grief, and anger all rolled into one. The worst part was that no one around me understood what I was going through.

But yet I’m here!

I’m so grateful to my sister, though, for letting me know she had my back when I finally told her what happened.

Without further ado, let’s now talk about the tips.

Connect with Online Communities

Being part of online communities connects you with people who can relate.

The people who understand the struggles of blogging. Even if they are on the other side of the world, their support reaches you.

You can share your challenges, pick up advice, and learn from what others have experienced. Before long, the journey doesn’t feel so lonely.

Seeing their wins and the energy they bring? It pushes you forward and reminds you that your goals are within clear reach.

Remember Why You Started

Remembering why you started gives you a clear direction when you feel lost or stuck.

It works like a compass, guiding you past setbacks and mistakes instead of letting them stop you.

Focusing on that original reason reignites your motivation. Of course, keeps you moving forward with your blog.

Unwind and Have a Mini Vacation

Taking a break or going on a mini vacation gives you a much-needed reset from creative burnout and stress.

Stepping away lets you recharge, refresh your perspective, and spark new ideas.

After that reset, coming back to blogging feels easier. You have more energy and focus. Motivation comes back to keep you going.

Develop a Growth Mindset

Developing a growth mindset changes the way you see setbacks, mistakes, and failures.

Instead of letting them stop you, they become lessons that make you stronger. Not only that, but more adaptable too.

Have a growth mindset, and every challenge will push you forward. They’ll help you grow and become unstoppable in blogging.

Find a Spiritual Inspiration

Blogging is a long journey, and sometimes it takes years before you see results.

Frustration can creep in when progress feels slow or challenges keep coming. It’ll demotivate you and that’s where spirituality helps.

It gives you something deeper to hold on to, like meaning, purpose, or passion. It fuels your blog while keeping you resilient.
