In my previous post, “Remember Why You Started to Overcome Setbacks in Blogging,” I said that building a blog or an online business is like writing a story worth telling.
But that doesn’t mean your story should only consist of passages and chapters about how you built it. Sprinkle some flavors and spices into that story, like retreats and real adventures.
Once in a while, they’re worth doing because content creators face pitfalls. For example, creative burnout, performance pressure, and repetitive routines. These things can stack up fast and take a heavy toll, especially when you’re working alone.
Taking a leisure trip or traveling offers a mental reset, needed to keep producing great work.
Go on a retreat you’d describe as the one that quenched your spirit before you could burn out. Take an adventure that got rid of your stress and made you feel completely refreshed.
Deny yourself these breathing activities, and you’ll choke your creative mind.

That creative choking happened to me once. It took place after my revamping efforts for Engineering Travels.
I was desperate to save the blog from the damage of Google’s notorious HCU update. That project took me four months, from mid-September 2023 to mid-January 2024.
No kidding, I was updating and rewriting blog posts nonstop all week. Actually, I was also cursing Google at the time! Banishing my site from the internet for no logical reason is goddamn unfair.
Came February, and I felt like my brain’s creative side had dried up.
I cannot forget how I spent four hours writing a lifeless 300-word introduction. I was smashing the keyboard in frustration.
I’m just glad my 25 USD Rappoo Bluetooth keyboard survived. I thanked God. In fact, the keyboard is still working as of this writing.
Anyhow, guess what fixed me? A three-day trip with my friends to a mountain town 500 kilometers away from home. Baguio City.
There we cycled through the town’s central park, hung out on top of a mall with a view of the city and mountains, and hiked a hill to overlook the villages.
I never felt so alive again after the trip! And I guess it was that energy that sparked my brain to work again. Creative block no more.
For sure, it was the breathtaking scenery took away my creative choking.
To tell you the truth, even before I became a content creator, I already knew how effective traveling is for escaping burnout. I used to travel as an engineer to relieve office stress.
What’s unique this time is that I proved it also works for creatives.
Indeed, taking a break is another way to stay productive while being creative.
Traveling and taking breaks is one of the ways I play the long game in blogging and keep going. If you want to see the others, check out my blog post, “How I Survived Blogging Alone for Years and How You Can Too.”
